RNLI MOB Guardian System

Sonartron are proud to announce their involvement with the RNLI and MOB Guardian System

HOW IT WORKS - Roll over the MOB unit to find out more about its functions.

MOB Guardian is the only system that provides safety cover for both the vessel and individual crew members. As soon as you go to sea, MOB Guardian connects with the RNLI Operations Room.

Vessel visibility
  • The MOB unit sets a safety 'geo fence' around the vessel while it is moored in port or visiting a port.
  • When the vessel passes through the 'geo fence' the MOB unit starts sending hourly reports with its position to the RNLI operations centre.
  • The MOB Guardian system looks for the vessel every hour and waits for the vessel's 'we're safe' report.
  • If the vessel fails to send its 'we're safe' report the system sends an alert and the RNLI operations centre investigates.
  • If contact cannot then be made with the vessel the 'alert' is passed to the Coastguard for action.

Individual crew
  • As soon as the MOB Guardian unit is powered up, the personal safety devices (PSDs) are operative.
  • Each crew member takes a PSD from the unit and either wears it around their neck or places it in their pocket (maximum of 4).
  • If a crew member falls overboard, submersion of the PSD will cause it to lose contact with the unit.
  • The MOB Guardian unit sounds an alarm almost immediately onboard, to alert other crew members.
  • After 2 minutes, the alert is automatically transmitted to the RNLI Operations Room, with a GPS position of the man overboard incident. The coastguard coordinates a rescue.

The MOB system uses the Iridium network of satellite's and therefore provides total global coverage.

MOB Guardian is aimed at vessels uner under 15 m with enclosed wheelhouses, or open boats with watertight compartments for the base unit. However Sonartron are aware of the interest in larger types of vessels and this will come in time

The MOB System, even works with total vessel "blackout" as a proper life saving system, the MOB comes with rechargeable batteries that maintain system power either monitoring mode or alert mode for at least 6 hours.

The PSD unit works for at least 24 hours providing the PSD is fully charged

This system has been designed for the maritime industry and thus as such, with not send false positive readings meaning that only fully activated in alert mode when submerged. Therefore splashes of water, or wetness will not activate it.

Sonartron have seen the MOB Guardian in action in our workshop and all Sonartron Staff were well impressed with its ability and its rapid response back to the RNLI, Sonartron fully support this product and see it as a must for every vessel Not only is the system easy to use and operate, but this will save lives.
