Sonartron are on the forefront of the marine electronics market !

The Doherty family have received delivery of the new 'Western Viking'. Sonartron Limited are well represented on this new trawler, having installed over 70% of cutting edge marine electronics technology.

The electronics market obviously moves at a blistering pace, with new technology released daily.
The marine sector is no exception, the high demand for robust, quality systems is never-ending therefore it is no wonder that Sonartron equipment features immensely on “M/V Western Viking”.

Sonartron engineers expertly installed and commissioned a vast array of equipment in Karstensens shipyard, skagen in Denmark.
Among this installation is the world-renowned Kaijo Denki 168KhZ long-range high frequency sonar. Kaijo Denki Corp, have proven themselves as acoustic experts, many of the Killybegs fleet having low and high frequency Kaijo Denki sonar’s installed on board. Complimenting the sonar is the new JRC “Black Box” 3Kwatt 130 sounder, using the frequencies 28Khz and 200Khz giving the skipper optimum fish detection technology.

As always both electronic navigational aids are Sodena TurboWin systems, supplied by Sonartron which is interfaced with the JRC “Black Box” sounder which outputs bottom hardness directly onto the sodena which allows the system to constantly and automatically map the contours of the seabed floor.

The Primary radar installed and commissioned by Sonartron is a JRC JMA 5100 upgraded to ARPA, which is also interfaced to the Sodena system, allowing the skipper to track targets on the radar and Sodena system. A JRC AIS system also installed and commissioned by Sonartron, is interfaced into the Sodena system allowing targets to be displayed along with all information outputted from the target e.g. MMSI number, LAT/LONG, Bearing, Rate of Turn. Interestingly enough when tested the JRC AIS received targets up to 99 nautical miles away from the vessel.

SOLAS requirements on board the “M/V Western Viking” comes in the efficient and reliable form of the Skanti Scan Bridge GMDSS A2 system.
The A2 system comprises of a TRP1250 SSB Skanti Class A VHF, as with the Sodena systems, position is acquired from JRC JNAV 500 Differential and Standard GPS.
A Paper Navtex along with 3 Handheld VHF’s completed the GMDSS package in accordance with Maritime Rules and Regulations.

Sonartron also installed and commissioned a standalone TRP1250 SSB ship to shore communications station with two sailor RT2048 VHF’s, once ICOM 401 Euro VHF and a UHF/VHF/SSB receiver.

Sonartron Limited, based in Killybegs, have proven Marport Catch sensors are the most popular, cost-effective and reliable catch sensors, among the professional fishing fleet. “M/V Western Viking” is no exception to the rule, having all Marport catch sensors onboard.
With such a wide spectrum of up-to-date marine electronics from Sonartron we are confident that Sonartron are enhancing fishing efficiency on board.
Mr.Doherty has shown through time and experience that Sonartron equipment is the future.
Sonartron wish the Doherty family and all the crew of the “M/V Western Viking” a safe, bountiful fishing.
